3 Days in Copenhagen (with MOM!!)

The scenario - you are in Copenhagen for only half a week and want to fit in as much site seeing and quality time together as possible! Well that's what happened this past week when my mom came to Copenhagen from back home for a visit.

The sights not to miss:

- walk the Stroget! Stroget is the large shopping and walking street in Copenhagen city center. Walking up and down here is a great way to see the city, spend some time checking out the different stores, and start to get a feel for danish culture. We even got lucky with a beautiful sunny day :)

- Nyhavn! This is the obvious choice for the first day and is a must see for Copenhagen. Take the walk by the Christansborg palace and through the trampolines to make it to this pretty harbor for the most views. Even though it was cold this was one of my favorite memories from the week - just chatting and exploring with my mom! Don't forget to visit the trampolines by the water a short block away.

- Castles!! There are so many throughout the city and while my mom was here I thought it was a good time to explore some of the more centrally located ones that I haven't seen yet. We were able to see three castles: Rosenborg Slot, Amalienborg Slot, & Christiansborg Slot. At Rosenborg we went in, explored the over-the-top decorations in every room and saw the insanely beautiful (and also over-the-top crown jewels). At Amalienborg we were able to see the changing of the guard and explore the royal church. Both really cool! Finally at Christiansborg we walked around the grounds and got to see it in the sunshine. Even though we didn't go in it was still a sight to see!

Let's talk food:

- Copenhagen Cafes! A must do ... sitting, relaxing, eating, and drinking in the best cafes you will ever find. Some of the highlights from the week include The Living Room & Paulden cafe. In these cafes we sat among rows and rows of books and in piles of blankets eating burgers and drinking the best coffee I've had in Copenhagen yet.

- Glass Market! This is one of the coolest places I've visited here in Copenhagen and never get tired of going back. Officially called Torvehallerne, this market place is filled with both food vendors, farmers market stalls, fresh fish, olive oils, and beers, and flowers. Taking my mom here was very special and was a great chance to try Smorrebord - the tradition danish open faced sandwich!

- Kul is a local restaurant in the meat packing district. This restaurant was suggested by my visiting host family and they got to come meet my mom for dinner! The food at this restaurant was different than food I would normally try but I am so glad that I had it all ... some of my favorite food yet in Copenhagen was served here tapas style! Not to forget a delicious desert!

Can't forget to mention - a quick getaway in Norway

One of the favorite parts of this time with my mom was being able to spend the weekend in Kristiansand Norway where her best friend from college is from & now lives! As I am very Norwegian and go to a school that makes a big point of celebrating its Norwegian heritage being able to spend a full weekend with a Norwegian family on this beautiful city by the water was extremely cool and special. We went for a hike, ate lots of good food, and spent time enjoying each others company!
